Freelance SAP S/4HANA Brownfield Conversion Solution Architect

Location: Remote, with occasional on-site travel to Oslo, Norway, for key project milestones

Overview

We are seeking an experienced freelance SAP S/4HANA Brownfield Conversion Solution Architect to lead the technical architecture and delivery strategy for a complex SAP ECC to S/4HANA transformation.

This role will take ownership of the end-to-end conversion approach, from initial readiness assessments and remediation through conversion execution, testing, cutover and go-live. You will work closely with functional and technical teams to ensure a robust, efficient and business-aligned transition to S/4HANA.

The position is predominantly remote, with occasional on-site attendance in Oslo required for key project milestones.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and govern the end-to-end S/4HANA conversion architecture, roadmap and system landscape.
• Lead SAP Readiness Checks, Simplification Item Checks and Custom Code Migration Analysis.
• Define and oversee technical conversion strategies using SUM/DMO, including downtime optimisation.
• Guide custom ABAP code remediation, add-on compatibility and the adoption of standard S/4HANA functionality and SAP Fiori.
• Develop data archiving, retention and database size reduction strategies ahead of conversion.
• Collaborate with functional leads across SAP FI/CO, MM, SD and PP to address master data, process and integration challenges.
• Govern mock conversions, system integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT), cutover planning and go-live activities.
• Provide architectural leadership, manage technical risks and communicate progress to senior stakeholders and delivery partners.

Required Experience

• 12–15+ years of SAP experience, including at least five years specialising in S/4HANA conversions - brownfield transformations.
• A proven track record of delivering 3–5 full-cycle SAP ECC to S/4HANA conversions.
• Strong technical expertise in SAP SUM/DMO, ABAP 7.5x, SAP HANA, CDS views and SAP Fiori architecture.
• Extensive experience with SAP system conversion planning, readiness assessments, custom code remediation and technical upgrades.
• Strong knowledge of SAP Activate methodology and S/4HANA conversion best practices.
• Relevant SAP certifications in solution architecture, S/4HANA conversion or a related specialism.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams in global delivery environments.

Working Arrangements

• Freelance contract with a predominantly remote working model.
• Occasional travel to Oslo for key project milestones, workshops and critical delivery activities.
